Mermaids: Our Co-inhabitants

These facts are what made me believe mermaids are real. They may have their own world, yet we have to acknowledge their presence and respect their rights; one is the right to live on their own. There has not been any stories about human beings being attacked by mermaids. The stories we hear are only sightings and encounters with their kind, but none specify that these creatures are harmful. Therefore it is only proper that we must not hurt them or use them for our own selfish interests.
This Amlan mermaid after being caught was said to be brought to a prominent university in Dumaguete City. After that the news about the mermaid died as if nothing happened. One television network news team who tried to cover it was being denied to see the said mermaid. Instead the network was being offered to only get a photo shoot of the trap which caught the mermaid. As a result, the news only said that what they caught was only a "dugong" or a sea cow.
Yet, do sea cows had this kind of face? And this kind of body? Look at the eyes that has a similarity of a fish own eyes; the scales, the spine, the mouth, the teeth. I need not say more, for I too, is very much overwhelmed by these photos.
What I feel now is only sympathy for this helpless creature. It is not known whether it is a male or a female. Some versions of the story said that this fellow was looking for his/her two children who were caught a few days earlier. I really never know what is true, for I only heard these stories being spread from mouth to mouth and not from direct witnesses.
Also, I come to realize that what were told of mermaids were not all true. For in the movie like "The Little Mermaid," the mermaid there had a face of a human. But in these photos we see a face that is combined both of a human and a fish; and a body that is both a combination of a human and a fish.
Whatever is this, I believe this is a mermaid. I believe this kind exist. And I believe that this creature too is as important as any of God's beloved creation.

The Amlan Mermaid

From my research I found out that the mermaid in these photos was caught in Amlan sea. Stories had it that in early February this year, two weeks after this mermaid got caught, the city of Dumaguete, including the nearby municipalities had been flooded heavily. This was the first time this place had been flooded. Environmentalists said that their forests were heavily protected. That was why they wondered why they experienced such a heavy flood when there was no possible reason for it to be so.
Was the mermaid had anything to do with the flood? No one could  actually say yes, but anyone could assume. The painful thing was, that flood claimed several lives as it was not expected.
A Closer look of the mermaid's face in the next post.

More Photos

These photos still belong to the same mermaid in the previous post. This is the close-up picture of the tail. If we take a closer look and focus only on the tail, we could say it belongs to a fish. However, if we look upward and into the body the mystery starts. How come this fish has a waist, a shoulder, arms and ribs.
What do you think?

Are Mermaids Real?

Living in a country which is composed of a group of thousand islands is quite fascinating. I'm grateful to be born in such a country, being rich in natural resources and a culture to add. Because we are surrounded by seas and oceans, stories about mermaids are a common thing. It is part of our folklore; several television series and movies such as "Dyesebel" and "The Little Mermaid" are even inspired by such stories.
The question, "Are mermaids real?" is just normal to hear. For some fishermen of old days, they are real; close encounters, stories and all. But to the modern fisher folks they are nothing but myth. No one would even believe that what we see on television would be true. That is why many of us choose to watch movies with themes about mermaids so that we could take a glimpse of what these creatures really look like. I, for one, love "Barbie as the Little Mermaid Princess". It is fascinating to sometimes feel like a child and believe them to be real.
However, my belief that mermaids are just myth has been challenged months ago. From the facts that we gather, I soon come to believe mermaids are real. The photo above explains it all. This photo has not been altered in any way. This is real, taken through a cellphone. The mermaid above is said to have entered into a fish trap and was not able to get out. Whether it was still alive or already dead when discovered by a fisherman is not known. The story of this mermaid (who, where, how and what) is being kept secret. A television network team even failed to get the details of this. My concern is just to share my little knowledge about this and tell the world that, "yes, I believe in mermaids."
More photos in my next post.
